My estate and letter boxes.

Here I am, enjoying the evening. I like to look out for anything that moves.
My estate looks beautiful, even at night. I notice and appreciate the fresh lush foliage
and blooming flowers the month of May provides.

The nighttime does a great job of hiding the flaws I see when the sun is out.
I need to remind Scott to do some work on the grounds.
I see weeds, uncut grass, and some trimming that must be attended to at once.
I want to notify him of these important tasks immediately - with a personal note from me,
special delivery. Unfortunately, I cannot find any complaint box in the house.

See, cats have "complaint boxes" in their homes.
Humans call them "litter" boxes.

Did you know that calling a "litter box" a "litter box" is an error?
People name that cat poop box- a "litter" box, which is completely wrong.

The fact is that it was originally known as a "letter" box,
a place where pets can leave daily complaint notes. A letter box.

The first (pet) letter box was used in the late 1700's by Sir Hugh Mann.
Hugh Mann had a big dinner parties for the whole neighborhood at his home. When the parties ended, everybody was telling him what to do for the next party. The next day, he couldn't remember anything the people said. Hugh thought of a great solution for that communication problem.
He simply placed a box on the floor, next to the front door, for his friends and family to anonymously leave notes to suggest food ideas, discussion topics or activities for the next gathering.
This was also a great way for people to complain about things too.
Hugh always enjoyed reading the messages people would write after the parties.

His dog, named Doo Doo, knew that he too was a friend and a valued member of the Mann family. One day, following a crazy party at his home, Doo Doo had sudden urge to express his feelings into the suggestion box. He wrote a complaint letter about being ignored at the party. Doo Doo must have felt that the party did not revolve around him, so Doo Doo left a note with a big capital letter " I " in the box.  Historians wonder if Doo Doo may have possibly have written an explanation point.  "!"
This was quite a surprise statement that Doo Doo left.  It was a simple message stating that all he wanted was more attention during the parties.  Needless to say, that letter was quickly noticed and boldly received. It certainly made a quite a stink in the famous Hugh Mann family mansion. Doo Doo suddenly received some attention he wanted and deserved. I say Doo Doo must have been very relieved after holding in all that frustration.  Doo Doo is my hero, for standing up and letting it all out! Dogs must never repress their feelings.

This event was the very birth of pets using a letter box.

I have one more clarification for you. Back then, 300 years ago, when a humans spoke,
they talked in the Old English Language style of speech. This made words sound higher class.
When they spoke the words:  "letter box", it was heard as "litter box".

I bet you didn't know all that. There is a new fact to remember- for a better understanding
of our world around you.  Dogs ARE smart. Yes we are. Let us teach you.

OK, so you see, cats use those small "letter boxes" inside their homes,
and dogs are allowed to use the whole yard outdoors for leaving complaint letters.

I see Scott does not pick up and read any of my important "messages" in the my yard.
When Scott cuts the grass, it frustrates me when I think about all my invitations, complaints and juicy gossip notes are unnoticed, passed over and stepped on -when he
mows the lawn. I know he thinks those packages are just a bunch of crap.

I bet he uses that lawn mower only to shred my documents.

I will continue to leave messages for Scott and really hope to see him have a hands-on experience with one someday. A stinky and sticky situation to behold.

My paws are tired right now - typing all this. Good Night.
